Our story

  • 2002

    Michael Monteiro & Dimitris Georgakopoulos buy their first rental property together in Providence, RI.

  • 2003

    They purchase 2 more rental properties and realize how much time they spend tracking things in spreadsheets.

  • 2004

    Michael and Dimitris start Buildium with the idea of making property management simpler and easier to control.

  • 2008

    Buildium reaches 500 customers, moves to Boston, MA, and hires its first employees.

  • 2012

    Buildium makes the Inc. 5000 list for the first time and reaches 5,000 customers.

  • 2014

    In its 10th year, Buildium nearly doubles its headcount, makes the Inc. 5000 list for the 3rd year, and reaches 10,000 customers.

    Buildium establishes its Build U. and Women in Technology scholarships.

  • 2015

    Buildium acquires All Property Management, becoming the only solution that actually helps property managers grow revenue by connecting them with property owners in their area.

    Buildium wins an Inc. 5000 spot for 4th consecutive year, BostInno’s 50 on Fire award for groundbreaking businesses in Boston, and is named to Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 for the first time.

  • 2016

    Buildium partners with HappyCo and Adobe Document Cloud eSign Services to offer improved property inspections and to enable eLead capabilities.

    Buildium wins two Stevie Awards for Sales and Customer Service, is recognized on the Inc. 5000 List for 5th consecutive year, and is named to Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 for 2nd year in a row.

    Buildium announces $65 million strategic investment, led by Sumeru Equity Partners in June.

  • 2017

    Buildium expands ePay online payments service in Canada and launches Buildium Academy, an online training program for customers.

    Buildium is named a Leader in Gartner’s Frontrunners Quadrant for Property Management Software.

    Buildium makes Inc. 5000 List for Fastest Growing Private Companies for 6th year in a row, and joins exclusive Inc. 5000 Honor Roll. It also wins its 4th Stevie Customer Service Award and is ranked on Deloitte’s Technology Fast 500 for the 3rd consecutive year.

    Buildium opens new offices in Portugal and St. Louis in order to expand customer service and tech support for customers.

    Buildium reaches a major customer milestone by surpassing 14,000 customers.

    Buildium and Tenant Turner partner on industry-best Showings Coordinator offering.

    Buildium is awarded two Stevie Awards for Outstanding Customer Service—the fifth consecutive year winning the national award.

    Buildium wins the 2018 MITX Award for “Customer Experience (CX) – Building a Customer-Centric Culture” because of its investments and focus on customers.

    Buildium dramatically increases investment in association management functionality.

    Chris Litster steps in as CEO and successor to Co-Founder, Michael Monteiro.

    Buildium is recognized for 7th consecutive year on the Inc. 5000 list of America’s Fastest-Growing Private Companies—only 3.5% of all honorees have made the list 7 or more times.

    Buildium launches new podcast to give voice to property managers: “The Property Manager Podcast.”

    Buildium partners with PayNearMe to offer Retail Cash Payments feature to expand payment efficiencies for property managers.
