The race is over, though some sore muscles remain. Buildium’s avid cyclists, as well as those who prefer a leisurely afternoon ride, cycled their hearts out this past weekend to raise money in the annual MS Ride on Cape Cod. We met in Quincy at 6:15 am on Saturday morning, rode 75 miles to Mass Maritime, and then we rode 75 more miles from Mass Maritime to Provincetown on Sunday. (Everyone who participated in the race is adamant that it was longer than 150 miles.)
We’re excited to report that our team of 35 riders exceeded our goal of $45,000 and raised $50,187.96 for MS research. Last year we had 17 riders raise $25,000. The team was made up of Buildium employees, friends, and Buildium customers who are now close friends. Three customers joined our event: Ellen Lynes from Lynes Realty and Development, Savannah, Georgia; Glenn Stewart from The American Home, Atlanta, Georgia; and Kevin Benson from Benson Property Management, LLC, Chicago. All of these customers, along with our team and friends, helped Team Buildium make a huge impact at the Cape Cod Getaway.
On the first day of the Cape Cod Getaway, the team set a fast pace. Equipped with enough PowerBars to feed a small army, the team trekked through the rain to Mass Maritime. Neither leg cramps nor flat tires could stop us from completing the 75-mile ride. We arrived at Mass Maritime and headed over to our team tent for massages. (Massages were the only way we could get to day 2!)
At the start of the second day, everyone said it was hard to get their legs pumping. However, everyone was determined to get to Truro, where we met up for a team lunch. Then, Team Buildium – Property Cycled rode the last eight grueling miles together, right into the teeth of a strong wind. We crossed the finish as a team (it was nice to hear “Team Buildium” shouted by the announcer 35 times in a row), and then we took the ferry back to Boston.
The MS Ride was in keeping with one of Buildium’s core values: We strive to leave the world a little better than we found it by volunteering and giving back to the community.
Thanks to our sponsors for a great event, and we hope to see everyone again next year!
